And when you hear a 79-year-old Iggy Pop delivering a half-spoken recital over a Mogwai backing that is more punk and direct than usual, almost a tribute to the Stooges who had such an impact on Stuart Braithwaite, it is impossible not to get excited.
The Glasgow band delivers a song with jagged guitars and lets Pop do the rest: he inhabits the role of an unhappy automaton, programmed to make money yet longing for something profoundly human.
"I am a robot and I am unhappy..."
Iggy described the song as a portrait of the "crushing loneliness of modernity". Ironically, it takes aim at celebrity culture, the music industry and artificial intelligence itself, before finally finding refuge in a single idea: Underground, you're my home.
