This band from Almería arrive with a calling card few acts can offer on their debut: a recording made at Neo Music Box, the studio used by Arde Bogotá, Izal, Siloé and The Dandy Warhols, with production and mixing by José Caballero. And it shows. "Iónica" sounds big, spacious and clean, a world away from the lo-fi murk typical of a first self-released single.
The song understands the value of space. It opens with restraint, a firm rhythm section holding steady without rushing and clean guitars tracing the melody. Somewhere between the punch of Arde Bogotá and the delay-soaked shadows of Alcalá Norte, with Viva Suecia's emotional pulse and Siloé's intimacy, the track builds with uncommon intelligence. The crescendo is measured to the millimetre. When the distortion arrives, it is not there to fill space: it is there to let go.
This is not a single chasing an instant seasonal hit. It is a statement of intent. It is not about summer; it is about staying. And it is only the first piece: "Iónica" previews Raíces, a five-song debut the band will unveil over the coming weeks until their first EP is complete.
A solid, mature debut with the stamp of a major studio. If this is their starting point, the launch show at Clasijazz on 24 October will do more than put them on the provincial map: it will establish them as one of the bands to watch.
